AWC Technology Ltd is dedicated to the development and deployment of the Articulated Wind Column (AWC), a deep-water floating foundation. The AWC is a specialised, single-anchor foundation suitable for water depths between 80 and 250m.
The AWC seeks to lower the high costs typically associated with the floating wind industry. Cost-reducing features of the AWC include:
• A smaller footprint
• Lowered site survey requirements
• Simple fabrication requirements
• Minimal maintenance needs
• Suitability for existing port infrastructure
The AWC has been additionally designed to maximise local content, engaging existing supply chains.
The UK Government’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy awarded £750,000 of funding to the AWC to support its ongoing development and progress the technology towards its first offshore deployment.
